Saban reels in another Star recruit

Man, I should really write headlines for a living.

Anyway, Elite 11 quarterback and the #2 rated dual-threat QB in ALL the land (by Rivals) Star Jackson gave his verbal to the Tide today. This wasn’t a huge shock or anything as many felt Star was a virtual lock for a while now. It is still big news. Saban needed to land a big-name QB in this class and this should do it. BAMA could possibly get another QB commitment this month for the class of ‘09 in A.J. McCarron.

Ghost’s Week One Observations

1. Tennessee’s defense has a LONG way to go to be mediocre. The defensive line is the worst at the school in 10-15 years.

2. Eric Berry is the real deal. Barring injury, there’ll never be another game in his career at Tennessee that he doesn’t start.

3. Phillip Fulmer was outcoached again.

4. We may never see the Lucas Taylor package again. If so, somebody needs to pull out a gun and aim it directly at Coach Cutcliffe’s seat in the pressbox.

5. California is the REAL DEAL, regardless of who wants to call UT “overrated.”

6. UT will still win at least nine games, and Erik Ainge is the leader all of the Vol Nation has hoped he’d be.

7. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever kick to DeSean Jackson. Ever.

8. Alabama still hasn’t played anybody.

9. Terry Grant is still pretty darn good.

10. We’ll get a glimpse of the team UA will be this week.

11. Not sold of Bama’s defense AT ALL, either.

12. It’ll be a LOOOOOOOOONG time before anybody schedules Appalachian State again.

13. Appy State might now go ahead and make that jump to I-A it’s been talking about for so long.

14. Michigan still blows.

15. Georgia may be the best team in the SEC. I was infinitely wrong about that.

16. Knowshon Moreno may make it difficult for Caleb King to crack the starting lineup next year.

17. UGA’s defense, stunningly, isn’t half bad.

18. Auburn has a long way to go to be offensively capable of winning nine games.

19. It’s time for a change at quarterback on the plains.

20. K-State is still not a very good team, regardless of who wants to think it is after Saturday night.

21. Georgia Tech will win the ACC. Clemson could knock them off, though.

22. Cal and USC may be 1-2 when they meet later this year.

23. Miami’s still bad. So is Florida State.

24. Tim Tebow can throw the ball. A conference cringes.

25. In two weeks, UT gets to see how slow it is again when it travels to Florida. But John Chavis doesn’t get embarrassed twice.

26. Notre Dame may not win three games.

27. Virginia Tech won’t be able to stay on the football field with LSU.

28. That breather game UT has coming up against Arkansas State? Ask Texas how easily it breathed.

29. My DLP TV is awesome.

30. Even at 0-1, it’s still college football season, and I saw enough decent things out of UT to still be guardedly optimistic.
