It was another nice weekend of college football. The murky waters of the SEC are getting clearer and clearer. Cinderella has a name, and some traditional powers got the ship righted (for now at least.)

Let’s get started.

UGA 26 UA 23

We talked about Matthew Stafford being the difference in this game, and for once we were right. Stafford’s mistakes managed to help keep Alabama within striking distance, and his big time throws down the field provided the playsUGA needed to win. Stafford is fastly becoming the SEC’s version of Brett Favre……..feast of famine. UGA can win a MNC with him at QB, but Matt will have to tone down the mistakes a bit.

The much anticipated Terry Grant- Knowshawn Moreno matchup failed to materialize. Grant wasn’t a big part of UA’s gameplan by design. (I did not understand this.) Moreno’s stats hide the true effect he had on the game. He was a very big part of UGA’s offense keeping the UA defense off balance.

Alabama had it’s chances. The play of John Parker Wilson was equal parts riveting and frustrating. He made a ton of big plays down the stretch, but struggled with consistency. A good argument could be made that JPW has regressed a little bit under Tide OC Major Applewhite. Wilson must settle down and hit open receivers for Alabama to win games against FSU, UT, and AU.

Nick Saban was clearly disappointed with his teams performance which is music to the ears of most UA football fans. No Alabama fan will demand the excellence out of this team that the head coach will demand. Coach Saban has taken a group of guys that he would have never recruited and turned them into a true team. Alabama’s record this year (although I expect that it will be very good) is secondary. The way this team is learning to play is the point.

UK 42 Ark 29

When is Disney coming to film?

Kentucky has the best QB in the country, and some pretty good skill players to go with him. It is not out of the question for the Cats to get to 10 wins this year. Enjoy the run UK fans, your football program graduates in May.
Houston Nutt is probably done. It was a good run. Well, not really.

Florida 30 Ole Miss 24

Tim Tebow thy name is Heisman front runner. What in the world is Urban Meyer thinking? Tim had 27 carries in this game. Maybe he really is Superman.

So Florida survives proverbial let-down game after it’s big win over UT. It wasn’t a real surprise that the game was close of thatUF went home a winner. It would be a surprise if Ed Orgeron returned to coach the Rebs again next year, despite this performance.

LSU 28 SCarolina 16

LSU win another conference game with ease………..ho hum.

It makes it easier when you have NFL caliber lineman everywhere. If Les Miles can’t win a MNC with this team, then Michigan should stay far far away. Michigan deserves a coach capable of winning a championship………if Les doesn’t get it down this year, then it will never happen.

By the way. Alabama fans must be salivating. The upper classmen on that team were recruited by Nick Saban.

UT 48 Ark St. 27

UT has problems on defense that aren’t getting any better. It wouldn’t be such a big deal, but UGA, SoCar, UA, and UK can all put points on the board in a hurry.

Tennessee will need to average 30 points a game in those matchups just to get a split.

Still, a win is a win, and Arky St. isn’t a bad football team. Maybe their still is hope for Coach Fulmer. We can always hope………….

AU 55 NMState 20

AU started 3 true freshman offensive lineman in a game that was close at the half, but turned lopsided in the end.

I think AU will get back on track. Coach Tubs is a very good coach who is at his best when his back is against the wall.

That still won’t be enough to save his job.
