There are many people out there that thought they were too cool for high school or they considered themselves the man in high school. Which ever way you look at it, I bet you were not or are currently not as cool as this guy.
Apparently the nation’s top recruit in the 2008 class according to Rivals.com, Terrelle Pryor, has his own action figure. Now I’m not sure about everyone else, but that automatically qualifies him as the coolest high schooler I’ve ever seen or heard of. How many other high schoolers can you name that has an action figure molded after them??? Not many, if any. Did LeBron James? Not that I’m aware of.
So what does this mean? Well first off, Pryor probably needs to go ahead and sign somewhere. Seriously, enough is enough. You could have and should have a decision by now. Who do you think you are, Brett Favre (even though he did make his announcement relatively early this season)? But, you do have your own action figure, I’ll give you that. Next, you are still in freaking high school no matter which way you look at it. You don’t exactly play the best of the best, yet.
Lastly, I’m not hatin’ on you bro and if I were in a similar situation I would be eating it up too. But this is absolutely ridiculous. Granted, the guy who made it obviously has no life and is borderline insane for taking the amount of time to do this. These figures are not for sale and actually there are only two that have been made, but still. I’m shocked.

Seriously, this kid needs to get a hold of himself. SIGN SOMEWHERE, for goodness sake!! This has gotten ridiculous.
Nobody cares about him right now. He’s becoming an afterthought nationally. (I realize the schools recruiting him still care, but all he’s going to do is ruin the Signing Day fun for everybody if others follow suit …) This could become a trend, and it sucks.
I don’t know. He has every right to wait til whenever the last day to sign is. If he’s not sure, give him time. At worst it just makes him look wishy-washy.
His holdout isn’t a big deal unless you are a Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon, or Michigan fan,, and I’m kind of enjoying watching Michigan twist in the wind. I don’t think it will become too much of a trend, though, because one common theme among kids when they commit is that they are just glad to be done with it.
Disagreement? From you guys?
I can’t believe it.
If Alabama or Tennessee were potential destinations we might view this differently. But I’d like to see the kid arrive at a decision soon.
Perhaps there will be a need in requiring a prospect to announce a decision no later than one month after the official signing day. I don’t know.
But if you or I were in his shoes and a prospective employer offered us a job, would we be given 30 days to make up our minds?
Moondog, it’s a good point, but the schools aren’t required to keep their offer on the table for him. They can pull it at any time. They won’t though, because there isn’t someone “qualified” and still available for the job, and even if they “hire” him, he won’t start until August, just like any other candidate. Frankly, I’d love for one of the schools to pull there offer just to make the point that one player isn’t bigger than the program. He isn’t really holding them hostage, though, since any program that isn’t preparing to start the fall without an uncommitted true freshman under center has far greater problems. If Alabama were in on him (and I know it’s easier to say this because they aren’t), I would hope they would pull the offer as soon as the action figure came out. Obviously, expectations have gotten out of control for him and in addition to having to manage both the ego of the player and the rest of the team (and fan) perception of him, the NCAA is going to be all over this kid now. He has a licensed product bearing his name, for crying out loud.
TFIT, as far as the action figure, I think it’s just the brainchild of some loony fan who refashioned an existing doll into the Pryor doll. Yes, I just called them dolls. That’s what they are, and yes, I too played with them as a kid.
I checked up. The doll is an original (I don’t have a problem with calling them dolls, especially when they don’t actually have any “action.”) but there are only two and he isn’t making more. Over/under on how long before it hits eBay is set at exactly one day after he picks a college.
That there is so much buzz surrounding him that someone thought this was appropriate and a worthwhile use of his time is enough of a red flag for me. Although that might be the result of his choice dragging out so long. You look at the rest of the top five kids and no one is talking about them. Except Julio Jones, and that’s just Auburn fans.
“Frankly, I’d love for one of the schools to pull there offer just to make the point that one player isn’t bigger than the program.”
I agree tidefanintn, that might very well be the impetus to truly capture his attention. Let’s put this in context - he’s a high school player that hasn’t done anything yet. This isn’t the way to endear yourself to future teammates either. A freshman, ultra-talented or not, has to fall in line or the veteran players will kick your ass - I’ve been there and I know.
Now that he’s playing this game, what is going to prevent more kids from doing this in the future?
I admit I’m jealous though. I don’t have my own action figure. If I did it would be a likeness of a middle-aged guy writhing in pain due to carpal tunnel.
I have a bad feeling that Pryor is going to end up causing his team more problems than he cures. With the Corvette picture and now this, he’s a cinch to be on the NCAA watch list for as long as he’s in college.
But the doll idea is great money for the guy who made it. With only 2 made, there will certainly be enough rabid fans of whichever team he plays for to drive the initial eBay price through the roof. All that value will come from the hype he’s receiving, which Superman would have a hard time living up to now. But if Pryor doesn’t pan out, the guy still gets to pocket all that cash. It’s a quick buck for him, and an eternal headache for Pryor’s future school.
But my response anymore is, “Meh”. He’s not worth my time to worry about, and he wouldn’t be worth the worry even if Tennessee was on the short list. Right now, I’m just trying to get some work done with an absolutely beautiful spring day beckoning outside my window. The tree outside is just beginning to open up its blooms, and I could really care less about recruiting for now.
