Message board Post of the Week

The football season is over four months away and spring practice for the majority of the teams will be over by this weekend. We are assuredly heading into the sloooooow time for football fans (and blogs). Many take refuge on message boards to at least give them a small taste of pigskin. These message boards can also provide a good source of entertainment, and also can make you feel a lot better about your intellect and command of the English language. So therefore we present our newest feature: The Message Board Post of the Week.

I fully expect these to get crazier and crazier as the college football message board equivalent to cabin fever intensifies as we move into summer.

Our first MBPW comes from Ghostzilla on DAWGVENT about Phil Fulmer and it’s classic message board smack. It has it all. Misspellings, incorrect grammar, tired pet names for a rival coach and team, strange math, irrational predictions, and the all important Hitler comparison. Bravo, good sir!

Wow,how the man is still coaching much less still alive is beyond me.

You’d think some Bama jihadist would have killed him by now.

And I’m only half kidding as Phillipotomus must feel the same way for not going to the SEC Media Days back in ‘04.

He is literally on his 9th live, CMR and UGA have been his saving grace. We saved him in ‘04 and how they won that game still is beyond me.

his comeback was complete in many a Vowels eyes with their big win after our 5 TO’s in the 2nd half of the ‘06 Debacle!

And his fat@ss was on the ropes again in ‘07 yet we just rolled over in that game!

THIS WILL NOT AND CANNOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!

There aren’t 7 guys on that team who’d start for us, and take away the 3 OL and Berry and there really aren’t 4!!! We are bigger, faster, more exp and better coached!

We have the off week this year and CMR hates him referring to him as that man!

We will destroy him by 35+ and then he’ll be gone!

He had a crappy Recruiting class, for the 2nd time in 3 years andreally 3rd in 5! The ‘05 class was #1 by many but 7 never made it in(one must think they were dumber then Cavemen not to get into UTK?) and another 8 have been kicked off due to drug dealing, fights andbeing basic menaces to society! This from a school who took a known rapist in with open arms! A school who has had not one but two murderers start for them the last decade! One Little was actually honered after killing a mother and a child!

No sir, The rightious and all that is good is on the side of the Mighty ‘G’ and CMR! While Heavy P and the Convicts have had their day and the evil urnge empire is about done! Kind of like Nazi Germany under Hitler……its time CMR has his Normandy where we slaughter the Vowels in Athens and put the final nail in their coffin!

AND finally after 15 years of rapre, murder, lies and everything else imaginable the Heathen Huns from the Hills of Hell will finally be destroyed!

But I do give Ghostzilla credit for the Heathen Huns line. That is something that will most definitely go into the repertoire.

I think Tide fans will have plenty to talk about. Like which current scholarship players Saban is going to have to kick off the team to reach the 85 scholarship player limit.

You mean the ones having to take medical scholarships due to serious heart problems, shoulders constantly popping out of joint, and serious knee problems? Those players?

MoonDog, I wouldn’t crow too much. I distinctly remember Fulmer telling a player, in August of last year or the year before, who had signed an LOI that he didn’t have a schollie because a more important player, who was borderline grade-wise, qualified.

Who was that player? Dustin Lindsey never re-signed out of JC … I’m trying to think of who you were discussing? Rufus Williams? He’s in JC and coming next year.

Really, I do just want to know. I’m sure there could have been one, but I can’t think of it.

My favorite part of Ghostzilla’s rant — other than his name, of course — is that fat@ss comes up as an email link, which just makes me happy.

crimson, if that is true, and I’d need to verify that before I speak on it, that is potentially one player. We’re talking six players the Tide will have to take off scholarship.

I think it was 2006. I’ll try and find out.

    MD,

I’m glad to see that so many people are interested in Alabama football to know exactly how many players are on scholarship. Here’s the thing, there is no list out there for public consumption that says who on the team is on schollie and who isn’t.

  8. 8 MoonDog April 18, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Not true. The Tide currently has 66 players on scholarship. They signed 32. 25 of those 32 will be given scholarships. Therefore, six will have to be taken off scholarship.

That’s an estimated number by a “journalist”. It may be less, it may even be more. The numbers will be worked out and if there is even one player that is kicked to the curb with no way to pay for an education I’ll be the first (well probably not the first, there’s plenty of people out there just waiting for Saban to make a mis-step)to post how wrong it is.

Guys, how many times do I have to go over this.

Marcel Dareus and Alonzo Lawrence will likely not make it in. That’s down to 30. We signed 2 this year that count for last year. That’s 28. Destin Hood will likely play baseball, so that’s 27. There are at least 2 or 3 others that are either on the edge of qualifying or will likely be drafted in the upcoming MLB draft. The numbers will work itself out.

Also, both Tyler Love and Barrett Jones have both said they would pay their own way and not go on scholarship for 1 year just to make sure the numbers are legit.

I’m not worried about it at all. It is funny though that so many other teams are worried about our numbers when this happens all the time at almost every other SEC team.

@Ghost: Kinda makes you wanna email the fat@ass and see if he replies. He might be too busy downing donuts, but it’d be a helluva coup if he actually responded. LOL

i’ve heard differently about alonzo lawrence, namely, that he will qualify, and that he will likely be one of the few “true” freshmen to play this fall.

  13. 13 crimson daddy April 20, 2008 at 9:54 pm

In his last interview A. Lawrence was quoted as saying that he had qualified, but there are a couple of others that may not qualify, including Preyear.

  14. 14 capstoneking April 20, 2008 at 10:10 pm

If A. Lawrence has qualified, great. I can’t wait because he will certainly push for the starting job and def. some quality PT. However, I’ve been suckered into a recruit saying he has qualified when really he hasn’t. Namely, Michael Ricks two years ago. I hope I am wrong, but he had a lot of making up to do.

  15. 15 tidefanintn April 21, 2008 at 1:52 pm

When he says he’s qualified, it’s because everyone focuses on test scores at this stage, which he scored high enough on to qualify. Since no one has completed the current coursework for this semester which is a requirement for him, we won’t know if he is fully qualified until he actually graduates.
