UT and UA, banding together in one common hatred: Florida

Sure, we’re all close friends here. UT and UA fans co-existing, which is what makes this blog so great, right? (What’s that? Yes, I said “great.” Well, OK. Good? Um, decent? Tolerable? OK, we’ll go with that. I’ll start again…)

Sure we’re all close friends here. UT and UA fans co-existing, which is what makes this blog so decent, right? Right. Despite the fact that I’d rather pluck hairs from hard-to-reach parts of my body than hear about Alabama recruiting, and I’m sure Crimson Daddy, Tide Fan and Capstone had rather see Terrence Cody nekked than hear me detail the Louisiana-Monroe Day of Joy, but we have to rag each other, right?

Well, through all of our disagreements, arguments and rantings, we can come together in oneness over a few things: We love to make fun of the Small Ten up north, we like picking LSU and Auburn scabs and … my personal favorite … we share a disdain for the University of Florida Gators.

Whether it’s from being the first-place loser in the Tim Tebow sweepstakes or getting manhandled by them every year without fail, we all have our reasons. So, UT and UA fans, unite as one! At least for a couple of minutes this offseason. I give to you the Florida anthem: “This is why you suck.” It may be a little old, but it never gets old …

(Warning: There is a little bit of language, so proceed with caution.)

The “Noah Dance” is sufficient to show just how terrible Florida is. I remember when we (Bama) were the last people to beat them before they won their first of two titles. Noah was cussing at the student section as they were leaving the floor–he’s such a bitch. No wonder his own teammates suspended him for 2 games earlier this year. Florida also has the most fair-weather fans in the SEC. Once Florida started getting good it seems like everyone’s a UF fan. Notre Dame’s the same way–there are ND fans all over the country, except for the last 5 years.

I can’t honestly say I hate Florida worse than Alabama, but they’re definitely 1A and 1B. Everything about Florida is ridiculous, the most of which is how they recruit to that stinkpit. At least Alabama has a beautiful campus with beautiful women. Florida is just the armpit of America. They have some good-looking gals there, but so does any campus. I wouldn’t want to spend four years of my life in a place that smells like raw sewage and stays 90-plus degrees half the year, but that’s just me.

Apparently, the best high school players in the nation don’t feel me.

Can’t agree with you more Ghost. I’ve been down there and it was just plain nasty. It’s located in a nasty neighborhood. The women are ok at best (at least on the outside). I’ll leave it at that.

My children’s godmother went to UF and I love her dearly, so I won’t go too overboard with all this, but I’ll say this…I’m glad the Gators are in the SEC. They elevate us by proxy when they win championships, and they give us someone to hate in good spirit before then. No fanbase embraces the things others mock quite like the Gators. Bama fans don’t appreciate comments about our tradition, UT fans don’t realize they have the worst colors in sports (When you wear that shirt, I just can’t tell if you’re about to help kids cross the street or make drapes on HGTV). But Florida fan, you know why we’re laughing. You even think it’s funny, too. But you do it anyway. They are like the uncle no one wants their kids to grow up to be like, but you keep bringing him around anyway because you just can’t resist the show you know he’s going to put on.

That’s such a good description, TFIT. I was laughing pretty hard on that one. I mean, we’re hillbillies at UT, and we embrace it somewhat with Rocky Top and all the bluegrass stuff, but nobody quite says SEC! SEC! like jorts and mullets in early September.

One of my mentors went to UF — even played football there — but I always told him it was OK because he was also offered a partial academic scholly to play football at Yale. Yet he chose to walk on at Florida. Sometimes, when there is a Ruth’s Chris steak there, you still just want a McDonald’s hamburger.
