Ming picks UA

The University of Alabama picked up their 9th commitment for the 2009 recruiting class in the form of Rivals.com 4-star defensive end William Ming from Athens, AL.  Ming and his family have always been huge Alabama fans, so this isn’t that much of a shock.  He grew tired of the recruiting process and pulled the trigger before he left to go back home from Alabama’s football camp.

Ming has quality measurables (6′4″ 265 lbs.) and has absolutely no issues with grades.  With a 3.93 GPA and a 26 on the ACT, it’s obvious that he is a hard worker and great student.  I look forward to seeing him in Crimson.  Roll Tide, William, and welcome to the Bama family.

    w00t!

I am disappointed you didn’t label this thread “The Start of a Ming Dynasty?”. Stay on the ball guys!

You’re right, TD. Shame on you, capstone.

Happens to the best of em.

    What about Ming the Merciless?

  5. 5 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 10:54 am

Holy cow, CD…if we also get Eric “Flash” Gordon…

  6. 6 crimson daddy July 23, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Man, didn’t even think of that, Tidefan. Too bad both are too young to get the reference.

  7. 7 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 12:44 pm

There’s rumor of a new movie. Let’s hope it’s just not too late, because really this is the greatest recruiting gimmick since Brodie “Shaggy” Croyle successfully swayed Juwan “Scooby” Simpson to join him.

  8. 8 PEEK-A-BOO July 23, 2008 at 1:23 pm

I loved Flash Gordon. I have it on tape, and watched it the other day. Well, it’s been a few weeks, actually, but, you know…

As a loyal Chiefs fan as well as being a Buckeye fan I must say I am sadly disappointed in Brodie Croyle.

  10. 10 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Of course his performance has nothing to do with having no offensive line. He’ll probably never be All-Pro, but Herm Edwards seems to be the only one aware that perhaps there are bigger issues than just Croyle.

It kinda stinks for Brodie. He went from a college team with no line (at least his senior season) to an NFL team with no line.

  12. 12 BuckeyeGuyinTN July 23, 2008 at 3:10 pm

The line will be better this year but he has still always had trouble staying healthy and its been no different in the NFL. I think he can be good but even when he had protection last season he didnt show much. I am hoping he proves me wrong but if he doesnt do better I think he’ll be gone next year or a career back-up.

  13. 13 PearlVision July 23, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Oh, he’s definitely a back up…I hope for the Chiefs, they aren’t betting on him for their future.

    Maybe they can get Favre!

  14. 14 BuckeyeGuyinTN July 23, 2008 at 3:29 pm

Yeah you’re probably right Pearl, he has future UA QB coach written all over him.

  15. 15 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 3:33 pm

I’m guessing that’s intended as an insult, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how. Peyton’s QB coach was a Bama guy, too.

  16. 16 BuckeyeGuyinTN July 23, 2008 at 3:36 pm

Not an insult, just stating facts about his future or lack there of….

  17. 17 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 3:46 pm

They can’t all be Troy Smith…

  18. 18 BuckeyeGuyinTN July 23, 2008 at 3:53 pm

LOL, I think thats funny. Really I do. 1 game kept him from going in the first round. That game was Florida. If you go back and look at his projected draft position it was mid to late first round and then when they lost that game he was all of the sudden too short and now going somewhere between the 3rd and 6th rounds. Smith probably will never get the chance to play as much as Brodie and thats ok by me. I wish him the best as I do the same for Brodie since he is playing for my favorite pro team but I just dont see either one of them doing much in the pros now.

They can’t all be Freddie Kitchens.

    Andrew Zow

  23. 23 ghostofneyland July 23, 2008 at 3:59 pm

    Elmer Fudd

  24. 24 PearlVision July 23, 2008 at 4:02 pm

    I totally forgot about Zow…

  25. 25 PEEK-A-BOO July 23, 2008 at 4:04 pm

    Heath Shuler……LOL!!!!!!!

  26. 26 ghostofneyland July 23, 2008 at 4:04 pm

He was a superstar. No Fudd or Kitchens, though.

  27. 27 PearlVision July 23, 2008 at 4:06 pm

Shuler actually got drafted and started a few games…total flop, but that’s beside the point.

  28. 28 PearlVision July 23, 2008 at 4:07 pm

I still have my Shuler autograph framed…is that sad?

  29. 29 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 4:09 pm

Don’t forget Casey Clausen, Tee Martin, Brent Schaeffer, Rick Clausen, Heath Shuler…

If you want to compare programs with historical success in the league, I’ll stack Bama up against your programs combined.

  30. 30 tidefanintn July 23, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Is adding Elmer Fudd to the Tide roster an attempt to distract from the very real Jim Bob Cooter on UT’s?

  31. 31 ghostofneyland July 23, 2008 at 4:46 pm

Jim Bob Cooter was a saint and a stud! And a Lincoln County boy to boot. GO FALCONS!!!!!

  32. 32 PEEK-A-BOO July 24, 2008 at 8:16 am

    Pearl,
Yeah, that actually is kind of sad.

    Tide,
Jim Bob doesn’t count, now. And, correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Tee win a championship?

  33. 33 tidefanintn July 24, 2008 at 8:20 am

Peek, you obviously aren’t that familiar with Alabama football (other than looking up at the footprint from last year), but Elmer Fudd doesn’t count now. Or ever. It was an attempt by Ghost to make it seem like Bama is backwards, just like me bringing up Cooter showed UT doesn’t have to fake it.

Tee did win a championship. In the past. Want to name the Bama QBs that won a championship in the past?

  34. 34 PEEK-A-BOO July 24, 2008 at 8:56 am

    Tide,
Just pointing out that Cooter was a bit of a joke, even to the droves of Vol fans. Don’t take it personal, man, I’m on your side on this one. And, I’m just pointing out that you keep bringing up the past. True, college football is based on tradition, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to see the future. And that future contains some very real players, unlike Cooter. Just a few of those players - Crompton, Foster, Berry, Jones, McCoy, Briscoe, Willingham, and Bolden. With names like these, why would I want to become familiar with Alabama football? Like I said the other day, you guys are just now sarting to regroup from the loss of Bear, and still have trouble staying off probation. I like to focus on the positive. And, finally, you’re right Tee did win a championship…in the past. How long has it been since the Tide won one? 92? When was their last SEC chamionship? 99? Ok, we won the year before, in 98? Not much of a comparison there. Seems to me like we’ve been pretty evenly matched for the last little while. So, it looks like we have to compare what we have, not what we HAD. Mark May seems to like us, and he has been regarded as someone who generally knows what he’s talking about. If I’m not mistaking, he was on air bragging about Foster and Crompton, and openly stated that there is a good possibility that we can bring home the big one this year. I don’t think he said a word about Bama, though.
